Advancing Green Rice Certification: CABIN Project Supports Compliance Assessment for Vietnam’s One Million Hectares Program
Can Tho, Vietnam | 13 May 2026
The CABIN Project supported a compliance assessment workshop for farming practices associated with Vietnam’s One Million Hectares High-Quality, Low-Emission Rice Program, bringing together 83 participants from government agencies, cooperatives, and rice-sector stakeholders in Can Tho City.

Organized by IRRI in collaboration with the Vietnam Rice Industry Association (VIETRISA) and the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Can Tho City, the activity showcased the use of the ViRiCert digital platform, a tool designed to assess compliance with sustainable rice production standards and support the development of Vietnam’s Green and Low-Emission Rice certification system.

The assessment covered eleven cooperatives and evaluated key production practices including water management, fertilizer use, pest control, harvesting, and rice straw management. The initiative helps strengthen traceability and transparency throughout the rice value chain, laying the foundation for sustainable certification mechanisms and greater access to premium markets.
The activity represents an important step toward scaling the implementation of Vietnam’s green rice agenda and supporting farmers in adopting practices that improve environmental sustainability while enhancing market competitiveness.
